Why an Ignition Switch Assembly May Fail
  • Use of worn keys or improperly cut keys may damage the tumblers
  • Trying to pull the key from the cylinder before the vehicle transmission has been placed in "Park" may also damage the tumblers
  • Steering column damage may also damage the cylinder or its connections to the starter circuit
  • A typical symptom would be fully inserting the correct key into the cylinder and turning it, but the engine will not crank and/or accessories remain inoperative
